The research and the educational experience were conducted for and with the historic Italian lighting company, Barovier&Toso (B&T), a Murano-based glassmaking company whose business started in the mid-13th century, and still  its ancient furnace embody the genius loci of the island, being an historical sign of resilience and tradition along innovation, superb manufacture, art and design. The company looking for a future vision about design path of lighting fixtures by considering two opposing factors: the technological innovation on one side and the preservation and promotion of both material and immaterial values being part of their memory and background. Fip offered a multilayered methodology able to cross different level providing a deep design based benchmarking analysis, a technical research on lighting sources and proposed four different scenarios for heritage valorization and innovation through design.
